Welcome!

I am a passionate educator and scholar committed to exploring the rich, diverse, and dynamic worlds of Spanish language, literature, culture, and media. As a Teaching Assistant Professor, my work lies at the intersection of language instruction, cultural analysis, and media studies, with a special focus on U.S. Latinx literature and popular culture. I strive to create spaces in which students not only master language skills but also engage critically with cultural narratives, discovering how literature and media can both reflect and reshape the stories of Latinx and other marginalized communities.

Whether through teaching, research, or community involvement, my goal is to contribute to a more inclusive and equitable understanding of our multifaceted and rich cultures. I am excited to continue my work as a scholar, mentor, and community advocate, shaping the next generation of students while pushing the boundaries of academic discourse.

Research interests

My research interests center on **counter-narratives** within **U.S. Latinx popular culture and literature**, particularly those that challenge the often limited or problematic storytelling about Latinx identities, women, racialized, and LGBTQ+ individuals. Currently, my work focuses on the exploration of **picture books** and **graphic novels** as rich sites for social commentary and cultural expression. Through these mediums, I explore how marginalized voices in the Latinx community are not only represented but empowered to offer alternative perspectives on identity, belonging, and agency.

Current work

I am currently exploring how **graphic novels**, **picture books**, and other contemporary forms of media provide new opportunities for storytelling within Latinx communities. I explore the ways these forms challenge traditional narratives and offer spaces for resistance, empowerment, and cultural expression. In particular, my current projects focus on texts that challenge mainstream portrayals of Latinx identities, particularly with regard to **gender** and **race**.
